Ripon Christian clinched at least a share of its sixth consecutive Trans Valley League championship Wednesday with a 70-30 drubbing of Orestimba in Newman.
The Knights (10-1 TVL, 17-10 overall) can secure sole possession on Friday with a home win over second-place Sonora.
Jack Vander Veen led 10 scoring contributors for Ripon Christian, finishing with 20 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Mason Tameling (seven rebounds, five assists), Amos Cady (five rebounds, eight assists, five steals), Chase Bunnell (10 rebounds) and Jeremiah Lambdin (10 rebounds) each recorded eight points. Dylan Segaar and Luke Walton pitched in with eight rebounds apiece.
Ripon Christian overcame a slow start and rallied for a 20-3 run over a four-minute stretch in the first half. The Knights led at halftime, 43-19.
All 11 players for Orestimba (0-11, 6-21) scored, but none of them netted more than five.
Escalon 60, Ripon 42
Visiting Escalon (7-4 TVL, 16-11 overall) surged out to a 21-7 first-quarter lead, getting 15 of its points from Ben Ferreira. He finished with 17.
Jake Ferreira led the Cougars with 21 points.
Sam Stewart hit three 3s in the first half on his way to 13 points for Ripon (2-9, 7-20). Tip Paini added 12 points, and AJ Vanderwerff finished with nine.
Lathrop 63, Central Valley 35
Starters Elijah McAllister and Karambir Bisla sat out for their senior night game with injuries, but some of the underclassmen helped pick up the slack in the Western Athletic Conference tilt.
Sophomore guard Nick Arceo led the Spartans (11-2 WAC, 18-9 overall) with 24 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists. DJ Reyno, also a sophomore, added eight points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
The JV team won 55-34, while Lathrop’s freshmen squeaked out a 42-40 decision.
