Ripon’s girls soccer team completed another dominant Trans Valley League season Monday with a 2-0 victory at Escalon.
The Indians (10-1-1, 19-5-1 overall) claimed at least a share of the last seven league titles, this year’s squad established a new program record with its 17th shutout.
Their latest win was more one-sided than the final score line. Olivia Ellis got them started with a goal in the fifth minute, working off a feed from Talen Dayek.
It was not until the 76th minute that Ripon registered the insurance goal, as Alena Mallari finished off a pass from Sofia Cabello. The Indians finished with 23 shot attempts against just six for Escalon (3-9, 6-15-1).
The defense was led by senior Addison Naranjo and goalkeeper Giuliana Locarnini, who came up with three saves.
Postseason brackets will be revealed by the Sac-Joaquin Section on Wednesday.
Ripon Christian 9, Orestimba 0
The Knights (9-3, 14-7-1) capped a highly-successful second season back in the TVL, finishing as the runner-up.
Alanna Blanco was one of three players to score a brace, and goalie Morgan Schenk collected six saves on their senior night.
Brooke Barnes and Kylie Koolhaas also had two goals apiece. Raegan Burgess, Savannah Hoekman and Lauren Mouw each scored one. Every goal scorer also had one assist. Meg Morris contributed one assist.
Sierra 3, Central Catholic 2
In Modesto, Sierra (8-3-1, 20-5-1 overall) secured second place in the Valley Oak League after holding off the dangerous Raiders (3-7-2, 6-10-2).
Haley Gama led the Timberwolves with one goal and one assist. Sisters Diana and Leslie Reyes each contributed one goal. Peyton Durate and Maitland Kohoutek dished out one assist apiece.
Freshman goalie Ava Bonilla had four saves.
BOYS BASKETBALL
River Islands 56, Stone Ridge 55
On Saturday, the Riptide (16-10) picked up an important non-league win that could help improve its position for the postseason.
They faced one of the top small-school division teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section in the Super Saturday Showcase hosted by Venture Academy at Delta College.
Stone Ridge Christian (21-6) for most of the game and by as much as 12 after starting the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run.
Dylan Peter, who finished with nine points, keyed the late comeback with 3-pointer to close River Islands to within a point, and the Knights turned it over on the inbound play.
Darius Radoc Factoran had a chance to push the Riptide on a put-back layup and was fouled on the play. The then made the tying and go-ahead free-throws with 10 seconds to go. He finished with 11 points.
Charles Mapanao spearheaded River Islands with 17 points, including five 3s. Euan Costales chipped in 10 points off the bench, hitting two 3s.
The Riptide has another big non-league matchup tonight at Sonora before wrapping up its first championship campaign in the Central California Athletic Alliance on Thursday at home against Holt Academy.
