Ripon Christian’s boys and girls soccer teams both took care of visiting Waterford in a Southern Athletic League doubleheader Thursday.
The boys team snapped a five-game skid with a 3-1 win behind Jack Dooley’s hat trick, while the girls blanked the Wildcats, 6-0.
The Ripon Christian boys (2-3 SAL, 2-10 overall) picked up their first victory in a month. Assisting Dooley’s goals were Isaiah Vander Woude with a through ball, Drew Meester with a cross and Josh Crivello with a throw-in.
Goalkeeper David Koolhaas came up with nine saves.
In the girls game, the Knights (2-0-2, 8-2-3) had five different goal scorers with Addison DeJong accounting for the first two for a brace.
Freshman Tatum Sonke gave Ripon Christian a 3-0 halftime lead with her first varsity tally. Helia Vander Meulen, Dayna Koolhaas and Alanna Blanco each scored in the second half.
Kate Vander Veen contributed a pair of assists, while Blanco, Sonke and De Jong dished out one apiece.
BOYS SOCCER
Sierra 4, Central Catholic 1
The Timberwolves (2-2-0, 5-6-0 overall) bounced back from back-to-back Valley Oak League losses, running away from host Central Catholic (0-2-0, 0-13-1) with three unanswered goals in the second half.
Emmanuel Ruiz scored one goal and assisted another. Anthony Napoles, Paul Pimentel and Jorge Reyes each netted a goal. Adrian Ramirez chipped in an assist.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hughson 52, Ripon 32
The visiting Indians (1-3, 7-10 overall) led the Trans-Valley League leader by a point after the first quarter, but Hughson (4-0, 14-5) outpointed them 16-8 in the second and slowly broke away from there.
Ripon’s Vanessah Ponce drilled three 3-pointers for her team-high nine points. Mackenzie Loechler, Shayla McKeon and Kailee Inderbitzin scored six apiece while pulling down seven, six and four rebounds, respectively.
Olivia Fiveash paced the Huskies with 16 points, and Madi Duron added 15.
