Ripon’s girls soccer team set a program record while securing its seventh consecutive Trans Valley League championship on Friday with a 4-0 win at Sonora.
The game was halted in the 69th minute by officials because of disruptive fans.
Sophomore goalie Giuliana Locarnini secured three saves, and the Indians (9-1-1 TVL, 18-5-1 overall) broke the single-season team record for shutouts with 16. The 2007 squad held the previous mark.
Fellow sophomore Mia Hendryx accounted for two of the goals. Alexis Zamora assisted two and scored one of her own. Olivia Ellis added a goal and an assist. Claire Reitkerk had an assist.
Ripon heads to Escalon next Monday for its regular-season finale.
Ripon Christian 10, Escalon 0
The Knights (8-3 TVL, 13-7-1 overall) rolled to their second 10-0 win of the season.
Brooke Barnes and Kylie Koolhaas led the barrage with hat tricks. Alanna Blanco, Raegan Burgess, Lauren Mouw and Kate Van Groningen added one goal apiece, and each also had assists.
Kara Koolhaas and Caitlin Walton contributed with assists.
Manteca 5, Central Catholic 2
Amaya Pacheco highlighted senior night for the Buffaloes (6-1-4, 17-4-4 overall), scoring her first goal of the season in the Valley Oak League match.
She was assisted by fellow senior Brooklyn Cornish. The Pacific-bound center back also scored a goal of her own. Makayla Spencer added a goal and an assist. Layla Flannigan scored once, while Paisley Coenenberg and Joanna Roa each contributed an assist.
The Buffs cap league play on Monday at first-place Oakdale.
Sierra 2, Mountain House 0
Maitland Kohoutek and Zoe Sutton each scored in the first half for visiting Sierra (7-3-1 VOL, 19-5-1 overall). Abigail Fraser and Natalie Ruvalcaba were in on the assists.
The Timberwolves attempted 24 shots, putting 18 on frame. Ava Bonilla picked up two saves in front of the Sierra goal.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Escalon 61, Ripon Christian 45
The good news for Ripon Christian (9-1, 16-10 overall) is that it remains alone in first place in the TVL despite the tough loss at Escalon (6-4, 15-11).
It was close for three quarters, but the host Cougars were able to gain separation with a 16-8 fourth-quarter advantage. They were led by 15-point efforts from Ben Ferreira and Conner Jones. Jake Ferreira fired 14 points.
Jake Vander Veen paced RC with 14 points but was held without a field goal in the second half. Amos Cady pitched in 10 points, and Mason Tameling had eight.
Sonora 57, Ripon 48
Upset-minded Ripon (2-8 TVL, 7-19 overall) jumped ahead 16-4 in the first quarter, but Steven Morfoot spearheaded the comeback for visiting Sonora (9-2, 13-13).
He scored 11 of his 15 points in the second quarter, and others stepped up from there. Eli Engalls amassed 10 points in the third period on his way to 14 total. Matt Hon knocked down two 3s in the fourth, when he scored nine of his 11 points.
Gavin Decena made four 3s and finished with 13 points for the Indians. Gino Calderara added 10 points and four assists.
JV boys basketball
Manteca 55, Sierra 43
Mateo Gonzalez pumped in 14 points for the triumphant Buffaloes. Jack Taylor led Sierra with 13.
JV girls soccer
Sierra 4, Mountain House 0
Julia Romero-Aslami and Isabella Cruz each scored a brace for the Timberwolves.
Emma Patillo picked up four saves in the shutout.
