Ripon’s girls soccer team traveled to Hughson on Wednesday and won 2-0 for its third consecutive shutout and 14th for the season.
The Indians (7-1-1, 18-5-1 overall) are also closing in on an eighth consecutive Trans Valley League championship while four points clear of second-place Ripon Christian with three games remaining.
Olivia Ellis scored in the 17th minute on a headed shot off a cross from Mia Hendryx. Madelyn McKiernan doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, taking a through ball from Sofia Cabello.
Ripon had one-sided advantage on shot attempts, 33-2. Goalie Bella Ochoa saved the lone shot on goal from Hughson (0-5-3, 4-11-5).
The Indians host Orestimba next Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Ripon Christian 1, Hilmar 0
The Knights (6-3, 11-7-1) completed a season sweep of the host Yellowjackets (5-3-1, 13-7-2), who were depleted without multiple starting players serving a one-game suspension.
Brooke Barnes buried the deciding goal just eight minutes in, receiving a through ball from Kylie Koolhaas. Morgan Schenk and the defense took it from there, as the senior goalkeeper finished with nine saves.
Ripon Christian heads to Hughson on Friday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ripon Christian 76, Hilmar 49
Nine of 11 Knights (7-0 TVL, 13-9 overall) scored led by Jake Vander Veen’s 19 points.
Amos Cady tallied 16 points, and Mason Tameling had 11. Ripon Christian made eight 3-pointers and 14 of 16 free throws.
Riley Quintero led Hilmar (2-5, 13-10) with 10 points.
Hughson 60, Ripon 49
The host Huskies (4-3 TVL, 11-12 overall) raced away with a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter. Elion Quinteros led them with 12 points
Andrew Shaw kept it competitive for Ripon (1-6, 6-17), as he drained five 3s and finished with 17 points. Gavin Decena chipped in with nine points, and AJ Vanderwerff grabbed eight rebounds top go with five poins.

Indians heavyweight and 2025 state tournament qualifier Joaquin Rodriguez notched a pin in the last bout of the night to secure the Trans-Valley League win for Ripon and a berth in Saturday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals on Saturday at Lincoln High in Stockton.
