Ripon’s girls basketball team held visiting River Islands to single digits in each of the first three quarters on the way to a lopsided 48-27 non-league win.
The Indians (7-10) led 24-8 at halftime. They were led by junior guard Savannah Richardson’s 16 points and six assists. Scarlett Ponce pitched in with eight points.
Octavia Orndoff scored 12 points to pace River Islands (4-12).
East Union 51, Patterson 47
The Lancers (2-0, 14-4 overall) led by as much as 10 late in the Valley Oak League game and held on for the road win.
Patterson (1-1, 12-5) did well to stay within range after trailing 26-17 at halftime and drew even at 33-33 by the end of three quarters.
Ava Barrera anchored East Union with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jerney Luckett amassed 11 points and 12 rebounds. ZyonDupree Beasley added nine points and 10 boards. Shebra Rezaye contributed seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Alyse Lomeli tallied 14 for Patterson.
Lathrop 56, Ceres 29
Lathrop (3-0, 17-0 overall) leaned on the two-way efforts of its top players to race away with the Western Athletic Conference home win.
JaLeiyah Ray racked up 17 points and six rebounds and was tasked with defending Lilly Staggs, the top scorer for Ceres (2-1, 9-7). Shakara Porter chipped in nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals, but her main contribution as limiting secondary scorer Sovannary Carter to three points.
Breanna Wiseman added nine points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Lathrop held the Bulldogs to two points in the second period and staked a 22-11 lead.
Ripon Christian 24, Hughson 12
Annika Jung registered 10 points for the host Knights, who improved to 1-1 in the Trans Valley League and 5-8 overall. Hughson fell to 1-1, 6-11.
BOYS SOCCER
Lathrop 2, Johansen 2
The Spartans (2-11 WAC, 10-3-2 overall) were able to salvage the draw in Modesto after mistakes in their defensive third allowed Johansen (2-0-2, 7-1-4) to jump ahead, 2-1.
Omar Rodriguez scored the equalizer for Lathrop. Andres Hurtado Garcia assisted both goals for the Spartans. He set up freshman Julian Silva on a nice combination play that resulted in the first goal of the game late in the first half.
Goalie Eric Lucatero came up with four saves. The JV team lost, 4-0.

East Union 31, Patterson 23
The Lancers held Patterson scoreless in the third period to gain separation.
Lilyan Frye was the workhorse for EU, pouring in a game-high 16 points. Camille Christensen chipped in seven points.
Lathrop 50, Ceres 7
Zoha Ali amassed 13 points, five assists and six steals for Lathrop. Sariah Hilton contributed 10 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and three assists.

Lathrop 43, Ceres 10
Ryleigh Race racked up 19 points, eight rebounds and eight steals in Lathrop’s landside victory.
Alexia Garcia contributed nine points and 10 steals.
