ROUNDUP: Riptide rolls past Ripon for non-league boys basketball win

 River Islands’ boys basketball team snapped a three-game skid on Friday, racing past visiting Ripon 52-45 in non-league action Friday.

The Riptide (6-10) trailed by seven at halftime but erupted for 17 points in the third quarter to take a 37-35 lead. They blew it open with a 15-5 run in the fourth.

Darius Radoc Factoran scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the second half for River Islands. Idrees El Farra added 11 points, making seven of eight free throws. George Dayeh pitched in nine points.

Ripon (5-12) got another strong scoring effort from Sam Stewart, who made six 3-pointers on his way to 20 points. Nate Longoria contributed eight points and five rebounds.


Lathrop 83, Ceres 43

Bryan Gamboa pumped in 22 points in just three quarters, as the Spartans (3-0, 10-6 overall) dominated the Western Athletic Conference tilt at Ceres (0-3, 6-11).

In fact, it’s the third straight game Lathrop had all of its starters on the bench for the entire fourth quarter.

Justin Neal fired 15 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Karambir Bisla had 10 points and five rebounds. Nick Arceo added six points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Lathrop also won the JV game 56-25 and the freshman game, 54-27.


Ripon Christian 67, Hughson 59 (OT)

Mason Tameling hit a corner 3-pointer to tie it at the end of regulation, and the Knights (2-0, 8-8 overall) scored the first nine points of the extra period to roll to the Trans Valley League victory.

Tameling finished with 13 points. Jake Vander Veen and Chase Bunnell (eight rebounds) scored 15 apiece. Amos Cady collected 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.


GIRLS SOCCER

Ripon Christian 4, Hughson 0

Host Ripon Christian (3-2, 8-6-1 overall) rolled to the TVL victory with three second-half goals, while senior goalie Morgan Schenk preserved the shutout with nine saves.

Alanna Blanco scored twice and assisted Kylie Koolhaas’ goal. Brooke Barnes capped scoring. Meg Morris and Tatum Sonke each contributed an assist.


BOYS SOCCER

Ripon Christian 2, Hughson 0

Noah DeBruyn and Jack Dooley each scored in the second half, and sophomore Talen Tameling assisted both goals for the visiting Knights (4-1 TVL, 5-4-2 overall).

Wesley Vander Woude had three saves.
