ROUNDUP: Sierra baseball rallies in 7th inning to beat Gregori

 Sierra’s baseball team will come out of spring break with some needed momentum after knocking off Gregori on the road Friday, 9-6.

The Timberwolves (6-8) rallied for seven unanswered runs after trailing 6-2 through two innings. They scratched across four to take the lead for good in the top of the seventh.

Chad Simas Jr. led the 13-hit attack, going 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. John Thomson (steal, two runs) and Ryan Reyes (run, RBI) both went 2 for 4. AJ Chapman and Josh Graves each contributed a double and a run.

Jayden Pimental pitched the final six innings for the win, striking out four against two walks. He and starter Riley Kane held Gregori (3-6) to five hits.

Sierra returns to Valley Oak League play next week with a best-of-three series against rival East Union. It starts Monday at EU’s Agostini Field.


Manteca 7, Downey 2

The Buffaloes (10-4) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning of the non-league contest and held on to snap a four-game skid.

Brody Carabello went 3 for 3 with a double and a run. Devon Richardson (two steals, three runs, two RBIs), Brennen Vega (double, run) and Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz (double, RBI) all went 2 for 2.

Downey (3-8) plated its lone runs in the fourth.

Manteca used its top three pitchers to lock down the win. Jeremy Cross struck out three over two hitless innings for the win. Nate Slikker (two runs, two strikeouts) also logged two innings, and Jimmy Burns (one earned run, four hits, five strikeouts) threw the three middle innings.

The Buffaloes host Patterson on Monday to begin a VOL three-game series.


SOFTBALL

Lathrop 13, Grace Davis 3 (6)

Host Lathrop (2-0, 5-2-1 overall) never trailed in the Western Athletic Conference contest, breaking it open with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Winning pitcher Maci De Costa struck out seven and walked one in the combined three-hitter. She was supported by Tatianna Lopez (2 for 2, two steals, RBI) and Ja’Leiyah Ray (three walks), who plated three runs apiece.

Luz De Luna (double, run, two RBIs), Avaihna Calderon (two runs) and Aubree Martinez (run) each went 2 for 4.

Lathrop welcomes Weston Ranch next Monday for a non-league tilt.
