ROUNDUP: Sierra, RC break out offensively in girls soccer wins

The Sierra girls soccer team kept the pressure visiting Lathrop’s back line on Wednesday, firing 34 shots while having seven different goal contributors in an 8-0 non-league victory.

Juniors Gianna Reyes and Kaylee Rodriguez each had a brace. Haley Gama scored one goal and assisted two. Leslie Reyes added a goal and an assist.

Maitland Kohoutek and Diana Reyes pitched in one goal apiece, and Zoe Sutton had an assist.

Freshman goalie Ava Bonilla had one save in an otherwise uneventful combined shutout for the Timberwolves (2-1). Leslie Reyes ended the game between the posts.

Sierra next plays in the Ervin Mendiola Memorial Classico at Woodward Park Lathrop hosts East Union next Wednesday, Dec. 10.


Ripon Christian 8, Amador 0

The Knights (1-1) had their way with visiting Amador (3-2-2), pouring in four goals in each half.

Brooke Barnes scored twice, once from the penalty spot. She also had an assist.

Alanna Blanco contributed a goal and an assist. Freshmen Meg Morris and Raegan Burgess recorded their first high school goals, putting away one apiece. Natalie Beenes and Kylie Koolhaas each added one.

Goalie Morgan Schenk kept the sheet clean with 10 saves and contributed an assist to the attack. Lauren Mouw and Paige Van Hofwegen each had an assist.


BOYS SOCCER

Manteca 1, Sonora 0

The Buffaloes moved to 3-0 after escaping Dunlavy Field with a late winner provided by sophomore Vincent Martinez. He opened his varsity account with 15 minutes remaining, deflecting in Andres Gomez’s cross.

Alberto Gutierrez had two saves in Manteca’s first shutout of the season.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Patterson 50, Ripon 40

Gino Calderara scored the first points of the game to give Ripon (0-3) its first and only lead.

The Tigers (3-1) took over from there in the defensive battle, leading on 6-foot-5 Jace Johnson and Troyce Harrison for offense. They finished as the high scorers for the game with 20 and 14 points, respectively.

Calderara scored 10 of his 12 in the second half. AJ Vanderwerff contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for the Indians.


JV boys soccer

Manteca 8, Sonora 0

Alfredo Pina scored all three of his goals in the first half for Manteca (1-3), and Alberto Gomez added a hat trick of his own.

Jonathan Perez and Hazael Tovar added a goal apiece.
