ROUNDUP: Spartans rally to force extra innings, stun Livingston in WAC softball

 Lathrop’s softball team scored the tying and winning runs in the ninth inning of a wild 13-12 Western Athletic Conference victory over visiting Livingston on Monday.

The Spartans (3-1 WAC, 7-3-1 overall) trailed 9-3 in the middle of the sixth inning.

Tianna Gonzalez helped spark the attack, going 4 for 5 with a double, two runs and four RBIs. Avaihna Calderon went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs.

Aubree Martinez contributed three runs and two RBIs, finishing 2 for 3 with two walks and a sacrifice fly. Tatianna Lopez added a double, two hits and two runs scored.

Maci De Costa pitched all nine innings and struck out eight. The Lathrop defense committed four errors. Livingston (0-4, 4-6) could not get over the hump despite outhitting the Spartans 20-16

The win sets up Lathrop’s showdown with Central Valley on Wednesday. The Hawks are one of three teams that remain unbeaten in WAC play.


Ripon 12, Venture Academy 2 (5)

The Indians (12-5) scored nine unanswered runs in the first two innings and coasted to the non-league home win.

Angelina Martinez racked up 11 strikeouts and pitched four innings in the combined one-hitter. Clara Townsend closed it out, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and one walk.

Both were also productive at the plate, going 2 for 3. Martinez plated two runs and knocked in two others. Townsend legged out a triple, scored three times and added two RBIs.

Izabelle Spurzem pitched in with two RBIs. Savannah Chapman and Mikayla Dietrich each had an RBI double.


BASEBALL

East Union 10, Patterson 2

After trailing for four innings at Agostini Field, East Union (7-3 Valley Oak League, 14-5 overall) jumped ahead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and raced away with a seven-run sixth.

Peyton Heath spearheaded the late flurry, finishing 3 for 4 with a double, a homer, three runs and two RBIs. Brayden Camara (two doubles, run, two RBIs) and Jackson Fay (double, two runs) each went 2 for 3.

Cage Woodall went the distance from the mound, giving up five hits, two walks and an unearned run. He struck out four.

Patterson (0-10, 4-12) hosts Game 2 of 3 on Wednesday.


Oakdale 12, Manteca 3 (5)

The Buffaloes (6-4, 13-5) were held to three hits by Oakdale ace Landon Schutte. The Georgia signee fired seven strikeouts and was supported by a 12-hit attack that included a home run each from Peyton Wallace (3 for 4, four RBIs) and Griffin Costa (triple, three runs, four RBIs).

Brennen Vega accounted for two of Manteca’s hits, and Brody Carabello plated both runs.

Oakdale (8-2, 12-4) visits Manteca on Wednesday.


COED TENNIS

Ripon 5, Hughson 4

The Indians (4-3, 8-3 overall) picked up a big Trans Valley League win last Friday to create a four-team logjam for third place.

Ripon did much of its damage at doubles, winning the No. 2 matches in third sets. Ripon’s Jordan Sandoval and Nate Denhart prevailed over Julian Whiteside and Landon Fife, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

The girls tandem of Abby Douglas and Emiley Wang overcame Jillian Barth and Betty Conners, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Ripon also got a key three-set win from girls No. 1 Brookelyn Betchart, who downed Melissa Walls, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Winning at No. 1 doubles were Max Ferral/Emilio Machado Perez (6-0, 6-2) and Sophie Douglas/Alyssa Lan (6-1, 6-3)


BOYS TENNIS

Lathrop 7, Grace Davis 2

Vincent Jiang (6-0, 7-5), Agam Singh (6-1, 6-1), Kyle Espiritu (6-4, 6-3) and Mattew Rodriguez (6-0, 6-7[5], 10-3) came up with singles wins for the Spartans.

Sweeping in doubles matches: Rushil Kadiyala/Alton Torres O’Callaghan (6-4, 6-2), Marmeet Singh/Harman Singh (6-2, 6-0) and Ishaan Bal/Jin Ibarra (6-2, 6-0).


BOYS GOLF

Oakdale 100

Ripon totaled a second-place score of 315 at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, finishing seven strokes shy of tourney-host Oakdale.

Andrew Bogetti and Cru Sullivan finished in a second-place tie with 3-over 75s. Alan Bunchien added an 81, and Ivan Castillo an 84.
