After dropping its first two contests of the season, Lathrop’s baseball team responded Friday with a 2-1 win over visiting Stagg.
Roman Giordano knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping a pitchers’ duel between Jasper Tover and at Corbett Freeman for Stagg (3-2), which blanked Lathrop 11-0 on Wednesday.
Tover went the distance, firing 11 strikeouts while walking none. Freeman also threw all seven innings, finishing with seven strikeouts and two walks.
A.J. Duenas contributed an RBI double for Lathrop (1-2). Catcher Jeremiah Estante scored on the play, finishing with a hit and three steals. He also threw out a runner on a steal attempt at second base. Eli Brooks went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Staff.
SOFTBALL
Manteca 14, Stone Ridge Christian 0
The Buffaloes improved to 4-0 with another blowout win Friday, finishing with a nine-run barrage in the top of the seventh inning.
They totaled 19 hits, while pitcher Nayellys Torres gave up four hits and two walks in her shutout. She also collected 11 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and four RBIs at the plate.
Baylee Willenbrink (3-for-4, walk) plated three runs while driving in two others, and Elon James (3-for-5) had an RBI double. Madisyn Bridewell (2-for-4, double) added three RBIs.
“Very proud of the girls and their efforts on the road this week,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. “It seems like everyone is contributing from top to bottom offensively. We got great pitching all week, and our defense played solidly behind them.”
Manteca 10, Chavez 0
On Thursday, Manteca’s stay in Stockton was short as the non-league game ended in five innings.
Mohrgen Kissee scattered six hits over four innings, and Grace Rosas pitched the final frame.
Ariana Lowery (two runs) and Jessica Almeida (triple, run) both went 2-for-3.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Sierra 115, West 50
Sierra 133, Weston Ranch 29
The Timberwolves picked up two wins in a double dual at home. Sierra had wins in every event against Weston Ranch.
Four-event winners against both visitors were Keira Brink (200 IM, 100 free, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and Jennifer Graves (100 fly, 100 breast, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay). Marisa Rush won the 50 free, and Lauren Ellis took the 500 free along with the 100 fly against Weston Ranch. Taylor Miske (100 back) and Gianna Ramos (200 free) also contributed first-place points against the Cougars.
BOYS SWIMMING
Sierra 64, Weston Ranch 42
West 78, Sierra 57
Moises Alvarado led the way for Sierra with wins in the 50 free and 100 back against West. He was part of the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays against Weston Ranch.
Gabriel Monasterio chipped in first-place points in the 200 IM in the head-to-head scoring with West. Against Weston Ranch, he won the 100 breast, Eric Andrade won the 200 free and Jacob Hargus the 100 free.
