ROUNDUP: Vueve’s double-double buoys Sierra in boys hoops win over Franklin

Sierra’s boys basketball team rolled to its fifth straight win Wednesday, getting a double-double from Colby Vueve while holding off visiting Franklin, 57-42.

To their credit, the Yellowjackets (1-12) from Stockton were able to stay competitive for more than a half. They were previously thumped by Sierra during Stagg’s Delta Kings Classic, 77-17. The Timberwolves (11-2) were not able to get a double-digit lead until midway through the third quarter.

Vueve anchored Sierra with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Revives scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting while handing out our assists.

The T’wolves are back home Friday against Trans Valley League champion Ripon Christian.

 

West Campus 69, Ripon 58

Andrew Shaw had the hot hand early on for Ripon (1-6) in the Motherlode Madness Tournament opener at Argonaut.

The junior guard scored 16 of his team-high 21 points in the first half, hitting five 3s in all.

It wasn’t enough to overcome the talented West Campus (7-3) team headed by Zach Villanueva’s 35 points. The Warriors gained separation with an 18-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Cooper Morino pitched in with 12 points and seven rebounds for Ripon. Gino Calderara contributed seven points and six rebounds.

The Indians play Hughes Academy today at 3:30 p.m.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Manteca 1, Patterson 1

Coming off a big win at Sierra in their Valley Oak League opener, the Buffaloes (1-0-1, 9-1-1 overall) were only able to salvage a point at Patterson (0-1-1, 3-5-2).

Kailee Jackson finished off a nice combination play with Makayla Spencer for Manteca's lone goal in the 20th minute, but the Tigers responded just minutes later.

Keira McCulley came up with six saves for the Buffs.  

 

Oakdale 3, Sierra 2

Sierra (0-2 VOL, 10-4 overall) struck twice in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the host Mustangs (1-0, 5-0-2).

Diana Reyes scored one and assisted Natalie Ruvalcaba’s goal. Ava Bonilla collected eight saves. The Timberwolves took the JV game, 1-0.

Sierra 74, Franklin 40

The Timberwolves (8-2) made 10 3-pointers and had four players finish in double figures.

Jack Taylor led the way with 14 points. Jonah Patterson added 13 points, Jayden Everett 11 and Kiral Tran 10.
