ROUNDUP: Wilkins’ late double lifts Manteca to softball win over Kimball

Ayva Wilkins knocked in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and one day after pitching a no-hitter, Riley Ward took the circle for the save in Manteca’s 2-1 win over visiting Kimball on Tuesday.

Bel Tonna threw the first six innings for the win, striking out five against seven hits and a walk.

“We were shorthanded today, so I’m proud of all the girls for stepping up, being asked to do what it took to get the win,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. Everyone had a role in today’s victory against a team that always plays us tough.”

The Buffaloes (2-1) were limited to just two hits. Bella Cooper (run, three steals) singled before Wilkins’ RBI double. Lauren Moncada contributed a run scored.

Saige Dodds was 2 for 3 with an RBI double for the visiting Jaguars (2-1).

Manteca next heads to Lodi on March 5.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

McNair 3, East Union 0

In Stockton, the Lancers (1-1) took their first loss of the season, 16-25, 14-25, 19-25.

Jacob Padilla produced five kills, two blocks and three digs for East Union. Gabriel Estabillo added four kills, two blocks and four service points. Freshman libero Javier Sandoval netted eight digs, including one pancake. Setter Issac Serrato dished out 10 assists.

East Union hosts River Islands tonight.


JV boys volleyball

McNair 2, East Union 0

East Union (1-0) came up short on the road, 19-25, 20-25.

Kalieo Alvaro led the Lancers with four assists and three digs. Marcho Chidinha chipped in four blocks and two aces. Sam Roman tallied two blocks.
