Sixteen area seniors tabbed all-stars for Baseball-Softball Classic

The 19th Annual High School All-Star Baseball-Softball Classic will be held Friday, June 19 at the San Joaquin Delta College Sports Complexes in Stockton.

The dual all-star games, which feature senior baseball and softball players from 30 different Sac-Joaquin Section high schools, begin within an half hour of each other.

Baseball opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 4:55 p.m., with softball to follow at 5:25.

This season, seven area baseball players and nine area softball players were selected for the all-star festivities.

East Union catcher Wade Morten will represent the North squad alongside teammates Ricky Acosta of Manteca and Ripon’s Kyle Wagner and Francisco Gustin.

On the South squad, Weston Ranch pitcher Chris Fleckenstein will square off against the North with teammates Andy Scott and Jordan Louie of Sierra.

The Lady Lancers will be well represented, as Ally Palluck, Rochelle Sellers and Alicia Cook will all take the field for the North softball team. They will be joined by Manteca shortstop Trina Solario, the Valley Oak League’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Sierra will also be well represented on the South squad, as Karissa Valdez, Monica Morado and Heather Scharmann will all travel to Stockton. A pair of hurlers, Weston Ranch’s Angelysa Washington, and Ripon Christian’s Sarah Nieweg will join the T’Wolf trio.

Advance ticket sales are now available through local high school baseball and softball programs, and day-of admission will be $5, while children age 10 and under get in free.

Proceeds benefit the Recreational Sports Club of San Joaquin, San Joaquin County Boys & Girls Clubs, high school sports programs and the United Way of San Joaquin County.

Fans can also check out the all-stars as they prepare for the event during five separate practice sessions.

The South softball team will meet Wednesday, June 17 at 4:30 p.m. at Delta College, and the South will meet at 6:30.

The North baseball team has two practices scheduled, Monday, June 15 at 4 p.m. at Linden High, and Thursday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m. at Delta.

The South baseball squad will practice Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at Delta.
