Old rivals will be teammates at the 14th Annual Six-Counties All-Star Games Friday at Modesto Junior College.
The girls all-stars tip off at 6 p.m., and the boys follow at 8.
The event will feature seven of the area’s finest, including three Bulletin All-Area Players of the Year.
Sierra High standout Christian Williams, who signed his letter of intent to play for Jackson State Tuesday, joins Manteca rival Nick Scheible on the blue team. The blues will be coached by Sonora’s Rick Francis and Angelo Naldi of Livingston.
The red team, headed by Patterson’s Tony Lomeli Jr. and Johansen’s Allan Davis, includes Ripon guard and Efren Sifuentes and Ripon Christian forward David Vander Schaaf.
East Union teammates Rachel McDaniel and Ashley Rose — the 2007 and 08 All-Area POYs, respectively — will join forces one last time to face Ripon’s Skye Dominguez and the red team.
Williams enjoyed a breakout senior campaign in which he broke the Sierra single-season scoring record and earned the Bulletin’s POY honor. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 26.6 points to lead all area players. He also had seven rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.8 steals per game while shooting at an impressive 84- and 44-percent clips from the free-throw and 3-point lines, respectively.
Scheible was named to the All-Area team for the second straight year after averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and leading the Buffaloes to their first Valley Oak League championship in 20 years.
Despite being slowed by a sore hamstring for most of the season, Sifuentes still managed to pour in 13 points per game. The 6-5 and highly-versatile Vander Schaaf posted 8.3 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
Williams, Scheible and Vander Schaaf were also selected to play in the Madness in the Mother Lode All-Star Game at Columbia College on April 4.
The formidable backcourt tandem of Rose and McDaniel led East Union’s memorable season in which the Lancers went 27-3 and won their third straight VOL championship before falling to nationally-ranked St. Mary’s in the semifinal round of the playoffs.
Rose drilled 81 3-pointers, a new school record, and averaged 18.5 points, while McDaniel contributed 13.3, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.3 steals.
Dominguez, another all-area selection, anchored Ripon with her all-around play, finishing with 10.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 3.2 spg.
