DUBLIN — Sierra’s girls basketball team followed up one blowout with an even bigger one in the West Coast Jamboree.
The Timberwolves advanced to the championship game of the Pearl Division after crushing De Anza of El Sobrante 53-16 Tuesday at Valley Christian. They started tournament play Monday with a 49-27 dismantling of St. Vincent de Paul.
The tone was set on the defensive end, as Sierra (6-5) shut out the Dons (4-5) in the first quarter while opening a gaping 16-0 lead. De Anza never reached double digits in every quarter and was outscored 19-3 in the third.
“Our defense did a great job of rotating tonight,” Sierra coach Martha Spivey said. “We were able to box out and rebound well and limit them to one-shot possessions.”
Devi Coglio spearheaded the Timberwolves on both ends of the court, finishing with 14 points and six steals. Kayla Wilson had 11 points while dishing out five assists. Lindsey Walljasper commanded the post and registered nine points and 12 rebounds. Darshel LaNere scored eight points to pace De Anza.
Sierra meets Los Banos for the title starting at 4:30 p.m. today.
