The Manteca Unified All-Star Olympics returns to Sierra High School’s Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium this morning starting at 9.
And it’s fitting that it happens during National Assistant Principals Week.
This annual event was founded by Assistant Principal Anne Marie Shaw in 2017, her first year at Sierra.
“Since then, the program has grown to include more students, and it is hands down my favorite event of the school year,” she stated in a release from the school. “Each year, our staff and students come together from across the district to celebrate this event.”
The All-Star Olympics includes physical competitions and games designed for students of Special Day Classes from five district high schools — East Union, Manteca, Sierra, Lathrop and Weston Ranch — and the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
“The All-Star Olympics gives all students an opportunity to compete and experience success by recognizing their unique strengths and inspiring teamwork and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment,” Shaw stated.
Shaw lauds the efforts of MUSD Adapted Physical Education instructors Derrick Burnett, Ernie and Lynn Klatt; Sierra business teacher Melissa Crooker; and SJCOE administrator Zach Franceschetti for helping to make this possible.
Principal Steve Clark is taking the opportunity to highlight Shaw for her positive contributions to campus culture and emphasis in inclusivity.
“It is fitting that Mrs. Shaw be recognized during National Assistant Principal’s Week for the many things that she does behind the scenes to support student learning and to connect them to school in a meaningful way,” Clark stated. “To become a great school and support learning at the highest level, you must have a great team, and Mrs. Shaw is a leader and a great teammate in the pursuit of excellence.
“As Sierra High continues to move forward, the All-Star Olympics stands as a lasting testament to Anne Marie Shaw’s personal vision: a school where differences are celebrated, strengths are honored and every student has the chance to feel like an All-Star.”
