Sierra High graduate Julie Shutler was named Women’s Golfer of the Year by the Big Sky Conference Monday.

The senior recently led the Hornets to a second-place finish in the conference tournament. Northern Colorado finished two strokes better, 880-882, for the title. Individually, Shutler finished in a tie for fifth place with a three-day score of 217 (74-71-72) at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.

For the season, Shutler set the Sacramento State record for stroke average with a 75.12. She was the Hornets’ top finisher in six out of nine tournaments they participated in, and she placed in the top five on four occasions. Her 77.44 career mark is also a program best.

Shutler, an all-conference first-team member in 2010, finishes the year ranked 139th among NCAA Division I golfers.
