Sierra, Manteca split VOL opener

The Manteca girls swim team put forth a strong showing in its first Valley Oak League meet of the season, winning every event en route to a 120-50 drubbing of host Sierra on Tuesday. Sierra’s boys also won handily, 111-59.
The top four performers — Samantha Cerritos, Brooke Freeman, Kianna Fortuny and Alyssa Trejo — for the Manteca girls capped off the dominant effort in the 400-yard freestyle relay, winning in 4 minutes, 36.81 seconds. They each won two individual races and two relays.
Fortuny led a 1-2-3 Buffalo finish in the 100 backstroke and also won the 50 free. She joined Trejo (100 butterfly 500 free) and Freeman (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke) on the winning 200 medley relay. Cerritos (200 free, 100 free) was part of the first-place 200 free relay.
On the boys side, Scott Tolman (50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Trevor Fast (100 fly, 100 back, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and John Buonauro (100 breast, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay) were four-event winners for Sierra. Brooks Cannon took first in the 500 free.
Manteca’s Jacob Evans and Austin Welch won the 200 free and 200 IM, respectively.

Caelan Parker (100 IM, 50 breast), Jeff Wynn (50 free) and Charlie Bassi (50 fly) placed first in individual events for the Sierra boys. They were also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Sierra’s girls were led by Mariel Diaz (50 free, 100 free), who also helped the 200 free relay take first.
