Sierra takes 2nd in Gebhardt Cup

 Sierra finished second and East Union fourth in Sierra High’s Vern Gebhardt Cup on Saturday.

Lincoln (5-1-1) of Stockton downed the Timberwolves (10-2) 2-1 in the championship game.

Trailing the Trojans 2-0 at halftime, Zoe Sutton scored off of a Leslie Reyes assist to draw Sierra within 2-1.

Ava Bonilla tallied six saves for the Timberwolves.

Sierra started the day with a 6-0 win over Chavez (2-6-1) of Stockton.

Diana Reyes put up a hat trick for the Timberwolves. Kaylee Rodriguez added a brace and Leslie Reyes chipped in a goal. Roxie Le dished out three assists and Zoe Sutton two.

Bonilla made one save.

Valley Oak League play begins Monday when Sierra hosts Manteca at 6:15 p.m.

The Lancers (6-5-1) lost 0-0 (5-4) to Summerville (6-4) in the third-place match after downing Hilmar (7-3-1) Saturday morning 1-0.

Gissel Reyes’ goal against the Yellowjackets was assisted by Jaelyn Jaurigue. Goalie Kadence Rossi kept Hilmar out of the net.

East Union has a final non-league match Monday hosting Ripon at 6:15 pm before kicking off VOL play Tuesday night at 6:15 at Mountain House.
