SOCCER ROUNDUP: EU in contention at Lancer Pride Cup

TRACY — East Union remains in contention after a win and a draw Friday at its own Lancer Pride Cup held at Legacy Fields.
The Lancers (2-2-1) wrap up Pool B of the Premier Bracket against 2017 Sac-Joaquin Section Division I finalist McClatchy (7-0) this morning at 9. The Lions dispatched Lincoln and Riverbank with 2-0 victories.
East Union blanked Riverbank 4-0 but battled Lincoln to a scoreless stalemate.
“The tournament is going great; there’s a lot of quality talent,” East Union coach Ronnie Green said. “I’m happy with where my team is. We’re building throughout the preseason and we’ve already played a lot of strong teams.”
East Union will have to pull off the upset to meet the top Pool A club for the championship.
Against Riverbank, German Gonzalez scored a goal in the 22nd minute and assisted Alex Arroyo and Giovanni Padilla in the 15th and 34th. Gabriel Gutierrez cashed in off a feed from Beto Gomez. Gerardo Gallegos contributed an assist.
The Lancers kept the sheet clean again in their second contest but could not convert on any of their many opportunities. Lincoln was held without a shot.
“We hit the crossbar about three or four times,” Green said. “We had great looks, we were just unlucky.”
East Union’s junior varsity squad also beat Riverbank 4-0 and edged out Lincoln, 1-0.

Livingston 2, Sierra 1
TRACY — The Timberwolves went toe-to-toe with the state’s ninth-ranked team, according to MaxPreps.
Livingston (6-0-1) got goals from Julian Cabrera and Jairo Olivares in the second half to jump ahead. Sierra led at halftime after Andrew Crawford’s headshot set up by a cross from Tristan Gonzalez.

Sierra 3, Enochs 1
TRACY — Enochs (0-2-1) struck first but could not hold off Sierra for long.
Miguel Villasenor broke loose for a hat trick, which started with a header off Tristan Gonzalez’s cross. Villasenor struck again with a free kick and put away penalty kick.

Varsity girls
Sierra 6, Bear Creek 1

STOCKTON — Sierra (7-1-1) dominated its first of two matches in the Delta College Showcase. Up next is St. Mary’s today at 2:15 p.m.
Jadyn Shinn and Tiana Cello each scored two goals and an assist. Zoe Wilson and Jenna Villanueva contributed a goal each. Nicole Martin racked up a pair of assists, while Nicole Martin had one. Michaela Bitle came up with three saves.

East Union 5, Hughson 0
The Lancers (4-1-1) did more than enough damage in a contest cut short by Hughson after halftime.
Jasmine Mejia netted two goals and two assists, Natasha Honore scored twice, Hailey Sims dished out two assists and Taylor McMahon added a goal.

JV girls
East Union 7, Hughson 0

Thania Valencia torched the Huskies for three goals and two assists.
Taylor Theiss pitched in two goals, while Jasmine Ruiz and Kassandra Rios scored one apiece. Anna Doroteo and Sophia Sisana each had an assist.
