Reigning Valley Oak League girls soccer champion Sierra kick started its season on Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Turlock.
Haley Gama played a part in both goals, scoring one and assisting Leslie Reyes.
The Timberwolves had no issues generating opportunities, blasting 22 shots including 13 on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Ava Bonilla was busy on the other end, finishing with seven saves.
Sierra travels to Gregori next Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Lathrop 5, River Islands 1
Elyanna Fernandez powered the Spartans with a hat trick in their season opener at home. She tied it after River Islands struck first, and it was all Lathrop from there.
Sol Cortes padded the lead with a penalty kick, and Ariana Garcia netted the final tally in the closing minutes.

The Spartans were unable to put away multiple scoring chances in the first half and had to settle for the draw on the road.
Adrian Montanez had the best look but narrowly missed after receiving a threatening through ballf rom Andres Hurtado Garcia.
The JV team gave up a second-half goal and dropped a 1-0 decision.
Lathrop faces another upper-division opponent next Monday at St. Mary’s.
