SOCCER ROUNDUP: Lee scores brace, DeBruyn assists three in RC boys’ high-scoring SAL draw

Ripon Christian’s boys soccer team snagged a hard-earned point Wednesday against one of the top teams in the Southern Athletic League.

The Knights notched a 5-5 tie in a wild back-and-forth battle with visiting Orestimba. They exchanged four goals in the first 10 minutes, and Ripon Christian (1-3-1 SAL, 4-9-2 overall) led 5-4 at halftime.

The Warriors (3-1-2, 9-8-3) scored the equalizer in the 60th minute.

Hyeon Lee unlocked the floodgates in the third minute and struck again in the 19th, getting assists from Noah DeBruyn and Isaiah Vander Woude.

DeBruyn ended with three assists, connecting with Vander Woude in the eighth minute and Jack Dooley in the 39th. Drew Meester buried an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute.

Senior David Koolhaas was busy between the uprights, totaling eight saves.

 

Lathrop 3, Johansen 0

Ociel Mora scored a brace, and Alan Hernandez buried a direct kick to lift the Spartans (5-1-0, 11-4-3 overall) to a Western Athletic Conference win.

Juan Morales assisted Mora’s first-half goal with a through ball. Andres Hurtado Garcia provided the cross for Mora to head in during the second half.

Jashanbir Bhuee had seven saves in the shutout.

 

VARSITY GIRLS

Lathrop 2, Johansen 2

The Spartans (3-0-1 WAC, 6-4-1 overall) battled through the rain in Modesto and salvaged a draw.

Janessa Ward and Elizabeth Enriquez Lopez accounted for Lathrop’s goals.

 

Manteca 2, Central Catholic 0

It didn’t take long for the Buffaloes (2-0-1, 17-0-2 overall) to get on board in the Valley Oak League match, as Sienna Jones scored in the opening minutes off a feed from Alexia Alva.

Manteca could not break through the defensive discipline of the Raiders (0-2-1, 8-7-2) again until the second half when Joanna Roa placed one in on a set piece.

The Buffs host Kimball next Wednesday, Jan. 17 in a first-place showdown.

 

East Union 3, Oakdale 2

The Lancers (1-1-1, 6-7-2) scored two unanswered goals in the second half for a needed VOL victory at Dino Cunial Field.

Addyson Soulier, Jenna Campbell and Tallon Cervantez each scored once. Alexa Bretao, Kaylee Mejia and Campbell contributed with assists.

Oakdale fell to 1-1-1 in league and 10-5-2 overall. The visiting Mustangs won the JV game, 4-0.

 

Kimball 2, Sierra 1

In Tracy, Kimball (2-0-1, 6-7-1) prevailed in the VOL match with a second-half goal.

Hailey Cruz registered the lone goal for Sierra (0-2-1, 10-5-4), getting an assist from Leslie Reyes.

 

Junior varsity girls

Lathrop 5, Johansen 2

Ariana Garcia’s hat trick anchored Lathrop’s conference victory. Alejandra Ortiz and Sara Vivero added one goal apiece.

 

Junior varsity boys

Lathrop 3, Johansen 2

Isaac Reynaga, Luis Mora and Francisco Martinez scored Lathrop’s goals in the see-saw affair. Klever Hernandez assisted Reynaga with a corner-kick cross.

 

Freshman girls

Ripon 3, Rio Linda 0

Jazmin Gonzalez put away a pair of goals, and Destiny Rivera scored one for the host Indians.
