Vickers overtime free throws lead Ripon past Knights

RIPON – Ripon High sophomore Alissa Vickers nailed two free throws with 8.6 seconds left in overtime Thursday night at Ripon Christian to lift the Indians over the Knights, 39-38.

Vickers finished with 12 for Ripon, as did Emily Louis.

Reann DeRousse paced the Knights with 16, and Janelle Engel added 8.

Ripon hosts Escalon Monday, while the Knights head to Modesto Christian.

Oakdale 37, Manteca 36
Megan Ortiz and Gabby Escobedo both scored nine and Aireene Curry added eight for the Buffaloes in the one-point loss.

Sierra 41, Ceres 29
Alysia Atkins dropped 13 for the T’Wolves in the win.

Lyssa Allen had eight points and seven assists, while Daylynn Penner added six rebounds.

Sierra travels to Lathrop Saturday.

East Union 60, Sonora 37
Katrina Camara had 18 points and 16 rebounds as EU improved to 8-1 in Valley Oak League play, and 14-4 overall.

Morgan Hulsebosch added 17, Briona Fontenot had 16, and Brittany LaMar grabbed 10 boards and five steals.

Sierra 42,  Ceres 40 (2 OT)
Lia Unterholzner was amazing Thursday night for the T’Wolves in the big-time win, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 boards as Sierra avenged an overtime loss to Ceres earlier in the year.

Joanna Ortiz finished with nine, Allison Armstrong scored four and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Kelly Paredes (7 points) hit the game-winning layup with two seconds left in the second overtime.

“Ceres is a really good team,” Sierra head coach Steve Unterholzner said. “We lost to them in overtime at their place, so it was really nice to get this one back. Everyone stepped up and played tremendous defense, especially in the overtimes.”

Manteca 36, Oakdale 16
Gabby Gaxiola had 10 points and Karlesha Thompson added seven as Manteca improved to 6-3 in VOL play, and 11-7 overall.
