Lathrop hangs with Beyer despite depleted roster

The Lathrop High girls volleyball team employed make-shift lineups with many of its players unavailable for Tuesday’s Western Conference Athletic Conference match against visiting Beyer.

The result was a 16-25, 24-26, 25-13, 25-27 defeat. The Spartans (4-3) travel to Modesto today for the rematch against the Patriots.

Lathrop did well to be competitive despite the low turnout. Lylliana Avila led the way with 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Charlene Bernal registered 10 kills and 12 digs. Ke’mya Barnett added four kills, three aces and three blocks. Camila de la Garza handed out 29 assists. 


Manteca 3, Oakdale 0

The Buffaloes had their way with visiting Oakdale, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18.

Abbey Kadillak tallied 19 service points, four aces, eight digs and five assists, while Karlie Spohn led the front row with 10 kills and three blocks.

Camrenne Genilla chipped in with nine kills, 13 points and three aces. Leilani Rios (eight kills), Katelyn Gross (seven kills) and Isabella George (four kills) also had a hand in the attack. Arielle Chandler facilitated the offense with 23 assists to go with five blocks.


VARSITY BOYS

Lathrop 3, Mountain House 0

Four-year standout setter Rael Carmesis played his final match for the Spartans (7-1) on Tuesday, when the team held their senior night. They swept 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 and ran their winning streak to seven.

Carmesis finished with 14 assists, three kills and three aces. Fellow seniors Kyle Constantino and Jaedin Mellion were also honored. 

Arman John contributed eight kills, two blocks and an ace to the victory. Tory Sumbler had three aces, eight assists and six digs. Christian Green added six kills and an ace. Jerico Santillan turned in two aces, three kills and four digs.


JV GIRLS

Beyer 2, Lathrop 0

Lathrop dropped a well-contested opening set and was swept, 26-28, 13-25.

Breeya Cosido served up seven aces and had a kill. Isabelle Cummings added three aces, and Amorett Contreras dished out four assists.
