The Sierra Timberwolves were able to keep pace with the Kimball Jaguars in the Valley Oak League standings, getting a no-hitter from Allison Walljasper in a 5-0 win over Weston Ranch Tuesday.

Walljasper got a run of insurance in the first inning and it was enough as the sophomore struck out 18 and walked only one for her fifth complete-game shutout of the VOL campaign. Walljasper helped her cause with a home run in the win.

Sierra (7-2, 10-3-1 overall) got a 3 for 4 effort from Iyana Hughes and a 2 for 3 game from Sommer Wilson. Katelyn Salsedo was 2 for 4 and both Lilly Gonzalez and Jessica Lopez both banged out hits. Hughes came around to score two times for the Timberwolves and Wilson drove in three runs.

Sierra will look to continue to play solid ball as they prepare for two back-to-back VOL showdowns with the East Union Lancers followed by a home game against the league leading Oakdale Mustangs.

Lathrop 13, Sonora 7

The Spartans broke open a 7-7 tie with huge fourth inning, posting their second VOL win of the season with the road win at Sonora.

Brianna Lopez played a huge role in the fourth inning rally, smashing a two-run homer to break things open. Lopez finished the contest 2 for 4 with three runs scored and both Regina Juarez and Jocelyn Castro were 3 for 5 in the win, Castro also drove in a run and scored twice.

“This was an offensive shootout; Sonora hits the ball very well,” Lathrop head coach Christina Jones said. “Any time you have to travel to Sonora you are at a disadvantage, but our team came ready to play.

“I’m proud of my team today.”
