Weston Ranch to play for Jamboree title

The Weston Ranch High girls varsity hoop squad will take on host Monte Vista (Danville) today for the Tanzanite Division title of the West Coast Jamboree.

The Cougars (9-2) defeated San Ramon Valley on Thursday, 54-43.

Leading the way for Weston Ranch was Jazmin Strane, who netted 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Leticia Infante and Aljanea Brown had eight and seven, respectively.

“We played well today,” said Weston Ranch coach Chris Bauer.

His team will play at Monte Vista at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game.

Ripon 46, Corcoran 44

The Indians needed a strong second half to squeak past Corcoran in Diamond Division action of the West Coast Jamboree.

Ripon (9-2) will take on Palm Springs at 3 p.m. today.

Against Corcoran, Ripon (9-2) trailed 35-24 at the intermission.

“We were able to shut (Corcoran) down in the second half,” said Indians coach George Contente.

Ripon closed the gap with a 14-6 run in the third quarter. Down 41-38, the Indians surged ahead in the final quarter, outscoring Corcoran, 8-3.

Ruth Waters led the way with 18 points and Tia Sidtikun added 12 for the Indians. Abby Waters chipped in with eight and Kelsey Alexander had four.

Nonleague

Riverbank 41, Sierra 31

Celine Barber scored 18 for the Timberwolves in the non-league game played at Riverbank.

Valerie Nestor chipped in with six.

“It was a close game through three quarters,” said Sierra coach Steve Unterholzner, who will open Valley Oak League play next week against visiting Sonora.

Sophomores

Riverbank 29, Sierra 12

The Timberwolves had a tough shooting night, going 2 for 19 from the field.

Kristen Maestretti finished with 12 rebounds and Naomi Nunis had seven steals and four boards in a losing effort.
