Ripon’s Zach Scudder and Corey Winter both qualified for today’s Sac-Joaquin Section swimming finals at Tokay High in Lodi.

Scudder made the finals for the 100-yard breaststroke and qualified for the consolations in the 200-yard freestyle. Winter made consolations for the varsity 100-yard backstroke.

Manteca’s Stephen Ruble, the Valley Oak League champion in the 50 free, participated in the section’s 50-yard freestyle, but wasn’t able to crack the top 20.

Ruble was also a member of the Buffaloes’ 400-yard freestyle relay team with Brandon Craighead, Austin Welch and Juanzin Espejel that took 20th and just missed coming back for the varsity finals.

They did improve three seconds off of their time that won them the VOL championship for that event with a 3-minute, 33-second finish Friday.

At the frosh-soph level, Ripon’s Daniel Esenwein made the consolations for the 500-yard freestyle.

Sierra’s Scott Tolman took first place in the 100 breast and clocked a 59.99 and finished fifth in the 50 free with a 22.40. He will be coming back for the frosh-soph finals for those two events, along with his 200-yard medley relay team of Tolman, Neil Sandberg, John Buanauro and Trevor Fast. They took ninth and will be back for that event as well.
