The Manteca Youth Softball Association is holding its last registration date on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Straw Hat Pizza in Manteca (1238 N. Main St.).
New players must bring their birth certificates. Fees are $60 for t-ball, $80 for 8-14 divisions.
Tryouts are scheduled for Jan. 17 and 24 at Sierra High. Check the league’s website for rainout information.
The tryout schedule for both dates are as follows: 8-under division, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 10-under division, 10:30 a.m.-noon, 12-under division, 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. and 14-under division, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

FREE-THROW CONTEST

The Knights of Columbus is hosting its annual free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 10-14 on Saturday, Jan. 17 at St. Anthony’s Gym on the corner of Sutter and Fremont.
Winners of the local competition advance to the district contest and is followed by the state championships. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus headquarters and are determined by scores at all of the state compeitions.
Entry forms are available at the Manteca Boys and Girls Club and at St. Anthony’s School. Participants are required to to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Sign-up forms will also be made available at the time of the competition.

RIPON QB CLUB GOLF TOURNEY
The Ripon Quarterback Club Golf Tournament is set for Feb. 27 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. Check-in time is 10 a.m., and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11. The dinner and awards ceremony will be at 5:15 p.m. at the Spanos Pavilion Banquet Room.
The tournament will be ran under a four-man scramble format. Women and coed teams are welcomed.
Fees are $125 per person and $500 per team. The price of entry includes green fees, golf cart, range balls, two drink tickets per player, dinner and transportation by chartered Store buses to and from the course. Buses will leave at the old Nestle parking lot in Ripon at 8:30 a.m. sharp.
The event organizers are also looking for hole sponsors. Businesses may sponsor a single hole for $100, or a hole on each nine for $150 and will be recognized during the awards dinner.
