Franklin Barreto, Oakland’s top prospect, added a home run, and Josh Reddick had two hits.
Left-hander Sean Manaea, Oakland’s most heralded pitching prospect, allowed one hit over two innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
“It was pretty nerve-wracking until the first pitch, and then it got a little easier,” Manaea said. “I know this is only spring training, but this is real to me. I looked at the mound. I looked at the rubber, and realized it was my first time in front of the Oakland fans.”
A’s closer Sean Doolittle made his first appearance of spring training and gave up a run and three hits in one inning.
Gerardo Parra had two hits and drove in a run for the Rockies. Ben Paulsen also had a RBI.
Right-hander Shane Carle gave up four runs and four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
“When they told me I could help the team win, that gave me a lot of confidence,” Carle said. “That was good for me.”

STARTING TIME
Rockies: RHP Shane Carle made the start in place of LHP Chris Rusen, who was scratched with inflammation in his middle finger. Carle led the Double-A Eastern League with 14 wins and threw a pair of shutouts. He was picked as a midseason All-Star.
“He has a power arm with good secondary stuff,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. “He’s looked good so far.”
Athletics: Manaea impressed his teammates.
“He obviously threw with a lot of velocity and movement,” A’s infielder Jed Lowrie said. “He pitched like he had some poise out there.”
Manaea threw a pickoff try into right field, one of his few miscues.
“I was looking at home, and when I looked over, I saw the runner and thought he was the first baseman,” Manaea said. “That was a little embarrassing. I’ll keep working on it.”

TRAINER’S ROOM
Rockies: LHP Chris Rusen was scratched from Friday’s schedule start with inflammation of his left middle finger.

I’m progressing well.” ... RHP Henderson Alvarez (right shoulder) was scheduled for a bullpen session Friday. ... IF Mark Canha (back stiffness) may see game action next week.

Catcher Stephen Vogt said his changeup was pretty good. too.
“It’s doing what it’s supposed to be doing,” Vogt said. “He was right where he wanted to be.”
