MODESTO – Modesto Junior College baseball pitcher Blane Abeyta recently signed a national letter of intent to play at University of Nevada, Reno.

Abeyta, (6-foot 3, 185-pound./Ceres High School) was a league leader in saves last year with five and had 22 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched with a 1.62 ERA. He was selected to the California Community College Sophomore Showcase in October and has been nominated as a Pre-Season All-American.

“Blane is an athletic RHP with tremendous stuff and upside on the mound. His fastball has been clocked as high as 93 mph this fall and I believe that it will continue to rise,” said Zeb Brayton, MJC head baseball coach.  “Blane came to us as a catcher from Ceres High with great arm talent. Once we convinced him that his future was on the mound, he really started to excel. Blane has a chance to be a special player as his career continues to evolve. We are very proud of him.”

T.J. Bruce, UNR head coach, said “Blane has a chance to be an elite arm for us and eat up innings in his first year at Nevada. He is fairly new to pitching so his arm is fresh and his pitching acumen will get better and better with every outing he has. We are very excited for Blane’s future here and we can’t wait to get him to campus.”
