VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Mauro Rosales and Kendall Waston scored in the first half to help the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 on Sunday.
Octavio Rivero added another from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.
Vancouver (11-8-3) moved into second place in the Western Conference.
Quincy Amarikwa scored a late goal for San Jose (7-9-4), his third in three games since being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Fire.
Rosales scored in the fifth minute, his first goal for the Whitecaps.
Watson connected in the 32nd on a header off a Rosales’ corner kick.
