Durao delivers 3 TD passes in Ripon Knights victory

Mason Durao threw three touchdown passes for the Ripon Knights varsity in a 24-8 win over the Westside Niners in Trans-Valley Youth Football League action.

Durao (8 of 14 passing, 106 yards) had touchdown throws of 2 yards to Cooper Morino, 8 yards to Kaeo Sanchez and 35 yards to Dax Beidleman (two catches, 60 yards). Lucas Ruiz added 82 yards on 10 carries and Kaeo Sanchez picked up 55 yards on nine carries for 55 yards.

Joshue Gonzalez led the Ripon defense with 10 tackles and two forced fumbles. Dax Beidleman added seven stops, Kaeo Sanchez (fumble recovery) five and Lucas Ruiz (interception) three.

 

Junior varsity

Knights 60, Niners 0
Ripon’s Xavier Powell scored two touchdowns.

Jax Booth, Max Abrew, Kevin Torres, Jessy Vega, Lazer Coronado and Wyatt Kelly each added a rushing touchdown. Ryder Huevel booted five conversion kicks and Draco Reeves one.

Booth led the Knights defense with 11 tackles. Jessy Vega and Logan Howard added five stops apiece, Jacob Ramirez and Draco Reeves four apiece and Drew Walker three. Dominic Bruno, Jaidyn Bassard and Zane Thompson all contributed on defense.

 

Junior novice

Knights 33, Niners 0

Ripon’s Luke Sanders ran for one touchdown, threw for another and caught a third.

Sanders (11 carries, 26 yards) tallied a 4-yard touchdown run, pulled in a 47-yard from Mearl Thompson and threw a 14-yard scoring pass to Thompson.  Nikolai Gorbunoff (three carries, 51 yards added scoring runs of 4 and 36 yards. Lucas Durao and Don Fletcher contributed on offense.

Durao was all over the field for the Knights with 18 tackles. Sanders added 10 stops, Chase Johnson seven, Fletcher, Jaylen Buchanan and Jaxson Quilangtang six each, Colton Avant five and Micah Rodriguez four.

 

MVFL

Ripon Chiefs 26, Escalon Jr. Cougars 8

The Chiefs varsity finished off the regular season undefeated and clinched the No. 1 seed going into the Motherlode Valley Football League playoffs.

Andrew Shaw (6 of 9 passing, 75 yards; six carries, 71 yards) ran for two touchdowns and threw one to Nathan Slikker (four receptions, 62 yards). Kael Rangel added a 1-yard touchdown plunge and Matthew Gaines was the workhorse, gaining 117 yards on 11 carries.

Ripon gave up only 16 points all season. Gaines had four tackles and two strip sacks, Kaiden Romero made seven tackles and Xabriel Reyes contributed to the defense.
