Oscar Guitron and Cedric Harris-Dixon competed in their first track meet for the Manteca Track Club this past weekend, and both earned berths to the USATF Pacific Association Junior Olympic Championships.

They each placed with top-six medals in this past weekend’s Pacific Association Championships at Whitney High in Rocklin.

Guitron tested his legs in sprint and one distance events. He clocked a time of 1 minute, 3.64 seconds to take fourth out of 33 participants in the 11-12-year-old 400 meters. He also reached the 200 finals, finishing seventh out of 40 with a time of 28.56 seconds. Guitron also turned in a respectable effort in the 1,600, placing 15th out of 33 in 5:22.19.

Harris-Dixon qualified in the long jump. Competing in the 15-16 boys division, he took sixth place with a leap of 16 feet, 10 ½ inches. He was also eighth in the 400 (59.43) and 12th in the 200 (25.37).

The Junior Olympics takes place June 21-23 at Chabot College in Hayward. Top-12 placers in each event qualify for the Region 14 meet at Diablo Valley College, and the best five from there move on to Nationals in North Carolina.
