Mantecan Chelsea Gray was one of two players from sixth-ranked Duke (27-2) to be named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball first teams on Monday.

Yes, teams, as in plural.

That’s because for the first time, ACC coaches compiled their own all-conference postseason teams. The other, dubbed the “Blue Ribbon Panel” was put together by a media members and school representatives.

Gray was in the middle of a breakout season — considered to be one of the best all-around in Duke history, according to the Duke Athletics website — before suffering a season-ending kneecap dislocation during a conference showdown with Wake Forest.

The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals in the 24 starts leading up to the Wake Forest game. Gray leads the ACC in assists and steals.

Joining Gray on the All-ACC first-team lists is 6-foot-3 sophomore teammate Elizabeth Williams. Together they led the Blue Devils to their fourth straight regular-season title in the ACC.

Gray was named an All-American as a sophomore while earning All-ACC first-team honors. A graduate of Brock Elliot School in Manteca, Gray went on to have an outstanding prep career at St. Mary’s of Stockton, as she earned many statewide and national honors —  including the 2010 All-America Co-Player of the Year award — and two California state titles.
