TURLOCK — District 67 champion Ripon’s normally high-octane offense could not get started Saturday, and Morada did just enough to win in by 5-2 in opening-round action of the Section 6 10U All-Star Tournament at Julien Park
Stockton-based Morada, the District 8 champion, converted two Ripon errors into runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead.
Ripon’s Trent Koolhaas reached on an error to lead off the third and took second on another error. He took third on a Troy Eskes groundout and scored on Chase Rubenaker’s sacrifice fly to narrow the gap to 2-1. That was as close as Ripon would come.
Trailing 5-1 going into the fourth, Ripon’s Jase Blanco led off the inning with a ground-rule double – Ripon’s only hit – took third on Bo Brayton’s groundout and scored on a Robbie Nieweg groundout to make the score 5-2.
Turlock 13, Ripon 3
Nieweg went 2 for 2 and knocked in all three of his team’s runs Sunday. Rubenaker went 1 for 2 in the season-ending loss.
Six infield errors forced Ripon to use four pitchers – Blanco, Nieweg, Brayton and Connor Paris.
