Ripon Chiefs clobber Calaveras to reach Motherlode-Valley Super Bowl

The Ripon Chiefs varsity advanced to the Motherlode Valley Football League Super Bowl with a 38-0 victory over the Calaveras Jr. Reds Saturday night.

Defense continues to set the tone for Ripon. Xabriel Reyes returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown. Ace Dougherty made seven tackles with five apiece for Jaden Becerra, Kaiden Romero and Gilbert Luiz II.

The offensive line of Jude Viss, Luiz II, Brayden McDowell, Nikolai Vitz and Mason Buck was dominating.  Dougherty opened the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown run. Andrew Shaw connected with Matthew Gaines on a 15-yard touchdown pass and Kael Rangel adding a 6-yard touchdown run. Gaines (six carries, 81 yards) capped the day’s scoring with a 42-yard touchdown scamper.

Ripon Knights 34, Ceres Seahawks 6

Tyce Thompson returned the opening kickoff 60 yards for a Knights touchdown in the Trans-Valley Youth Football League novice division.

Tyce Sanchez connected with Hudson Postma for a 70-yard touchdown pass. Travis Maltes added an 8-yard touchdown run, Max Neto scored on a 4-yard run and Thompson tallied 69 yards on three carries. Jesse Hernandez, Hudson Postma and Jacob Machado each caught a conversion pass.

George Bogetti led Ripon with 15 tackles, forcing a fumble and then recovering it. Danny Widmer added 13 tackles, Shooter Bruns eight with six each for Ryker Christensen, Keagan Heuvel and Sanchez.
