SAN JOSE (AP) — Lukas Schiraldi struck out T.J. Bennett in the ninth inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 4-3 win over the San Jose Giants on Wednesday.
The strikeout came with a runner on first and was the first out in a scoreless inning for the Giants.
Modesto went up 4-2 in the eighth after Chris Mariscal drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Arturo Nieto.
San Jose answered in the bottom of the inning when Bryan Reynolds hit an RBI single, driving in Jalen Miller to cut the deficit to one.
Mariscal reached base four times for Modesto.
Starter Pablo Lopez (2-2) got the win while Yordy Cabrera (0-1) took the loss in relief in the California League game.
Ryan Howard homered and singled twice for the Giants.
