SPLL Twins win on RBI walk

Jayden Morales drew a full-count, bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday to give the Twins an 8-7 walk-off win over the Blue Jays in the opening round of the Spreckels Park Little League minor playoffs. 

Hitting leadoff, Morales reached base four times with a double and three walks, scoring two runs. Landon Nabb doubled with one out in the sixth and was the winning run forced in by Morales.

Trailing 4-1 going into the fifth inning the Blue Jays played patient baseball in their last two at-bats, drawing seven walks and scoring six runs with Jimmy Burns (two runs) tying the game at 7-7 in the sixth inning when he scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Josh Graves. 

Isaiah Guerrero doubled and scored a run for the Blue Jays. 

 

Northgate majors

Cubs 11, Astros 5

The Astros jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Cubs totaled nine runs in the final three innings on the way to claiming the championship and a berth in the District 67 Tournament of Champions.

Ivan Viera had a two-RBI triple for the Cubs in the fourth and a two-RBI double in the fifth, reaching and scoring in all four trips to the plate, adding a walk and being hit by a pitch. 

Carson Sanders was 2 for 3 for the Cubs and Nick Ridgewell added a double. 

Caanen Showers and Ryan Torres opened the game for the Astros with singles and Troy Pretoni and Fernando Alaniz followed with walks. Alaniz walked in Showers, Drew Guzman walked in Torres and Jimmy Muzquiz laced a two-RBI single to plate Pretoni and Alaniz for a 4-0 lead. 

Alaniz (2 for 2, two RBI, two walks, run) singled in Torres (two runs) in the sixth. 

 

Manteca majors

Giants 19, Brewers 9 (5)

The Giants put up seven runs in the second inning on the way to a mercy-shortened win. 

Wes Currigan was 2 for 4 for the Giants and had an RBI in the fifth inning for the 10-run cushion that ended the game. Brian Lopez (2 for 2, two runs, two walks), Eli Terpsma (2 for 2, three runs, walk), Jojo Brizuela (2 for 3, two runs) and Nate Dorn (1 for 1, three walks, three runs) rounded out the Giants offensive attack. 

Dorn, Brizuela, Terpsma, George Reece and Landon Chamberlain combined for 10 strikeouts for the Giants.

Andrew Maki (2 for 3, run) and Micah English both had a double for the Brewers with Diego Esparza (1 for 2) scoring a run. 

The Giants face the A’s on Saturday at 10 a.m.

 

Manteca minors

A’s 9, Braves 2

Dylan Stonum and Jace Quitasol led the A’s on the mound and at the plate.

The two combined to three-hit the Braves, striking out 10. 

Stonum (2 for 2, walk, run) and Quitasol (2 for 3, double, run) paced the offense along with Maddox Melendez (1 for 2, two runs, walk), Matthew Escarcega (2 for 2, two runs) and Ezekiel Segura (1 for 2, run). 

Landon Espinola and Ezra Alvarado were each 1 for 2 with a run for the Braves.
