The popular SPEARS Southwest Tour Series returns for its final 2013 appearance at the Stockton 99 Speedway this Saturday night for the 125-lap SPEARS Southwest Tour Series event presented by 51 FIFTY Energy Drink.

With seven of10 races on the 2013 schedule already in the books it’s crunch time as veteran Jim Pettit II of Prunedale looks to tighten his grip on his bid for a third series championship. Pettit holds a commanding but not insurmountable lead in the championship standings with a 985 to 892 point margin over Manteca’s Ross Strmiska. Lakeport’s Derek Thorn, the defending series champion, sits in third with 890 points, and Manteca’s Jacob Gomes holds down the fourth spot with 855.

The SRL Legends Tour/Legends of the Pacific Series, with scaled-down throw-back cars of yesteryear, will also be racing at the 99 on Saturday.  Ricky Schlick is the current point leader heading to this weekend’s event.  The 2013 SRL Legends Tour championship is determined by the best eight finishes out of the 11 series events.

The Modifieds will be running in twin mains where Ripon’s Mike Regelman and Sacramento’s Jason Philpot will be looking to gain the upper hand in their tight battle for the 2013 track championship where Regelman holds a razor slim 496 to 482 edge.

Also expected to be on hand will be last year’s 99 Speedway Track and California State Champion Scott Winters, of Tracy, who is only running a part time schedule at the 99 this season. Winters holds an amazing eight track championships and 102 main event wins, including two in just three starts, at Stockton this season.

Mazda Raceway

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion returns to Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca this weekend for its annual gathering of some of the most iconic racing cars ever built.

Described as a museum springing to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is a cornerstone of the Monterey Peninsula’s Classic Car Week with approximately 550 vehicles competing in the world’s premier historic motoring event.

The event will include historic race cars, competing in 16 distinct classes, from nearly every era in racing dating as far back as a 1911 National 40 to a more modern-day 1992 Mazda RX-7 92P. All the famous names will be represented, including Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, McLaren, Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti, Talbot Lago, Alfa Romeo, Ford and Chevrolet.

The 2013 featured marquee, the celebrated Chevrolet Corvette which celebrates its 60th anniversary, has long been considered America’s sports car.

Sonoma Raceway

On the weekend of August 23-25, the excitement of the IZOD IndyCar Series returns to the twisting 2.385 mile, 12-turn Sonoma Raceway circuit for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Last year the series debuted new cars, new engines on the newly revamped circuit and the combination led to the best INDYCAR race we’ve ever seen in Sonoma, with Ryan Briscoe taking the checkers to become the seventh different driver in eight years to win in Sonoma.

Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who vaulted to seventh on the all-time Indy car win list courtesy of three victories in July, is among nine different winners through 14 of 19 IZOD IndyCar Series races this season. Dixon’s recent hot streak has propelled New Zealander into second place in the season standings behind Penske Racing’s Helio Castroneves. The Brazilian holds a 31-point (453 to 422) over Dixon while defending serie3s champion Ryan Hunter-Reay lurks in third with 388 points.

Also racing at Sonoma with the IZOD IndyCar Series will be the return of the Trofeo Maserati World Series, SCCA World Challenge Series and Formula Car Challenge. You’ll also be treated to an expansive vendor midway, charity auction and an entertaining pre-event show on Sunday, highlighted by the Patriots Jet Team Air Show.
