As an organization that cares for seniors in the prime of their lives, Premiera Care, which operates four assisted living communities in the area, comes across many stories of seniors with difficult situations, especially in today’s economy.
“I was compelled to take action to help seniors,” said Don Petersen, CEO of Premiera Care. “Seniors are postponing needed services or putting care decisions on hold due to the uncertainty of the economy. What’s important is that seniors obtain accurate information on which to base decisions that will affect their lives and that of their families.”
With the housing sector still at the center of the current economic crisis, seniors are left wondering what to do. Do they sell their home? Rent it out? Where should they move?
“The uncertainty is high and with so much information floating around, it’s challenging for seniors to know where to turn,” Petersen said.
That’s why Petersen called Mike Zagaris, president of PMZ Real Estate, the Central Valley’s leading real estate firm.
Together they developed the idea to hold educational forum for seniors to learn the basics about the housing market and what options are available to them. While both organizations could benefit from these forums, that’s not the goal for Petersen or Zagaris.
“I hope seniors and their families attend so they can be informed about the economy and the housing market,” Zagaris said. “Seniors have been responsible community members and took care of their houses. Now their home can help them at a time they should be taking care of themselves, not worrying.”
The educational forums are free. Upcoming forums are scheduled for Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. at Dale Commons, 3900 Dale Road in Modesto. Two more forums are set for Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at The Commons at Union Ranch, 2241 N. Union Road in Manteca.
Refreshments will be served at the sessions, and lunch will be provided after the Feb. 28 session. Reservations are requested to insure adequate seating and refreshments.
