Bowl-a-thon helps fund free tutors for struggling kids

The Give Every Child A Chance Antone E. Raymus  11h Annual Bowl-A-Thon will be held Saturday, Feb. 27.

 Marie Raymus, in partnership with Give Every Child a Chance, will be hosting the event by donating the use of the Manteca Bowl and Family Fun Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 This includes all 48 lanes, bowling shoes, a soft drink for each participant, and staff to ensure the success of the Bowl-A-Thon. It is all at no charge to Give Every Child a Chance. The organization provides free tutoring services to more than 2,500 struggling kids.

 “This year is proving to be our most challenging year,” said GECAC chief executive officer Carol Davis.  “Even in this difficult economy, the lanes are filling up.  The excitement of businesses challenging businesses is increasing the enthusiasm throughout the communities.”

There are five players per team with a minimum of $250 in pledges needed per team. There are two games of bowling. Participants get a T-shirt, rental of shoes, and soft drink.

Challenges are encouraged such as business vs. business, family vs. family, adults vs. children, etc.

Grand prize winner categories include overall top adult team, overall challenge category team winners, overall highest collecting top youth team, overall top three individual students, and prizes for individual youth collectors.

Individual youth collectors can earn extra prizes such as bowling certificates, pizza certificates, and movie passes. The top three Individual youth collectors can earn passes to Boomers.

The school that collects the most pledges will receive a complete computer package or a $500 school shopping spree.

All of the net proceeds benefit Give Every Child a Chance.

The current major sponsors are Marie Raymus, Manteca Bowl & Family Fun Center, as well as Albert and Rina Brocchini Family Foundation.
