In a surprise twist “Spiderman” is in custody – a day after his human interest story of having his life turned around by a spider bite.

David Blancarte, 48, walking again for the first time in 20 years, was jailed Friday on a year-old domestic violence warrant.

The Manteca tattoo artist was recognized by officers as having a $20,000 warrant for contempt of court in disobeying a court order connected with domestic violence.

Officers Travis Martin and Randy Chiek spotted Blancarte around 9:30 a.m. Friday riding in his wheelchair on North Main Street near the Casino Real card room and stopped to talk with him.  They said he was quick to tell of his being featured in the news media about his recovery from a Recluse spider bite and the subsequent reversal of his paralysis.

They had to give him the bad news that he was under arrest for the outstanding warrant and took him into custody.

Martin said they took Blancarte directly to San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp where he will probably be held over the weekend.  He is scheduled to appear before a judge at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.
