ROUNDUP: Abigail Chapman wins 300 hurdles, sets new school record at SJS D-III Finals
East Union, Ripon baseball and Lathrop volleyball eliminated from postseason

Abigail Chapman highlighted area standouts in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Track & Field Finals on Thursday at Vacaville High.

She won the 300-meter hurdles title with a new school record time of 44.76 seconds, a big improvement from the previous mark she set in her trials run (46.07) Tuesday.

She’s among the several Manteca Unified students who qualified for the SJS Masters meet set for next week, May 17-18 at Davis Sr. High. The top six placers and competitors who meet at-large standards from the Division III meet advance.

Chapman also made Masters in the 4x400 relay with twin sister Alexandra, Janessa Barnes and Aileen Montero. The quartet placed sixth in 4 minutes, 8.23 seconds.

Alexandra Chapman took sixth in the 100 hurdles in 15.87 seconds. She’s Sierra’s record holder in the event.

After winning the boys triple jump on Tuesday, Anthony Grady took third in the long jump on Thursday with a personal-best mark of 21 feet, 7 ½ seconds.

East Union’s boys 4x100 relay team of J.P. Abrew, Jackson Fay, Anthony Morales and Cesar Salinas set a new school record at 42.41 seconds, good for third place. Fay also took fourth in the 100 (11.02).

After narrowly missing out on a Masters bid in the discus throw Tuesday, Sebastian Arrizano took third in the shot put (51-00).

Reigning girls shot put champion Genesis Mailangi is a two-event qualifier with a fifth-place finish in the discus throw (107-05).

Jayden Scarver finished second in the 400 (49.24) and third in the 200 (22.36). Julian Moncada is the 100 runner-up (10.99) for a second straight year but was disqualified from the 200 for a false start.

The two sprinters were joined by Isaiah Arechiga and Dario Rodriguez on the second-place 4x400 relay (3:22.22).

The Manteca boys finished fourth in the team standings with 33 points. Vista del Lago (46) held off Ponderosa (44) and Oakdale (40) for the boys championship, while Christian Brothers (109) dominated to claim the girls title.


BASEBALL

Lincoln 9, East Union 0

The No. 5 Lancers (17-11) were held to just one hit in the SJS Division III quarterfinal in Placer County.

Jackson Cook struck out 13, walked one and hit two for No. 4 Lincoln (22-6-1), which plays top-seeded Oakmont in a best-of-three semifinal next week.

Davien Fagundes had East Union’s lone hit.


Placer 5, Ripon 2

Fifth-seeded Ripon (17-10) was knocked out of the SJS Division IV playoffs. Placer (14-15) advances to the semifinal and will take on No. 1 Casa Roble.


VOLLEYBALL

Vanden 3, Lathrop 0

Lathrop (25-6), seeded third, had its nine-match winning streak snapped in Fairfield, dropping the Division III semifinal, 19-25, 18-25, 20-25.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i led the Spartans with six kills and nine digs. Charles Reyes had 17 digs, while Alexander Vere accumulated 15 assists. Pravjit Singh added four kills.

No. 2 Vanden (25-11) takes on No. 4 Christian Brothers in the title round on Saturday, 2 p.m. at Cosumnes River College.
