A new vice principal and an assistant principal for the school year that starts in the fall were appointed by the Manteca Unified School District on Tuesday.
They are Greg Leland for Sierra High School in Manteca, and Brad Harrison for Weston Ranch High School.
Leland succeeds Steven Clark, Sierra High’s former vice principal who was promoted earlier in the summer to be the Timberwolves’ principal.
Harrison was selected to succeed Frank Gonzales who relinquished his vice principal position at Weston Ranch when he was appointed last month to the position of principal at Manteca High.
Leland is a familiar name and face to many who are involved in local sports. Throughout his career with Manteca Unified, he has coached varsity football and track and field. On the academic side, Leland has been at Sierra High since 1994 when he was hired to teach Health, World History, and European History. While at Sierra, he has performed administrative duties as Dean of Activities, Dean of Athletics, and Summer School principal.
In addition to his involvement in local sports, he has also been active in the community by being involved in such programs as Give Every Child a Chance, Manteca Unified Student Trust, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in charge of site logistics.
Harrison comes to Weston Ranch from East Union High School where he served as vice principal since 2004. Prior to that, he was the Lancers’ Dean of Students from 1995 to 1999, and the assistant administrator of Child Welfare and Attendance for three years after that. He returned to teaching from 2002 to 2004 at August Knodt and George Komure schools, campuses located in Weston Ranch. He began his career with Manteca Unified in 1991, teaching Social Studies at Stella Brockman, East Union and Sierra High.
The vacancy at Sierra High School was created when former vice principal Steven Clark was promoted in May as principal of the Timberwolves. He served as Sierra High’s vice principal from 2002 until his new appointment at the helm.
The position of assistant principal at Weston Ranch became vacant when Frank Gonzales was appointed by the Board of Education in June as the new principal at Manteca High succeeding Doug McCreath who was promoted to assistant superintendent of educational services at San Joaquin County School of Education.
