The Mulvihill Theatre will double up as the streets of Paris.

In Jean Giraudoux’s “The Madwoman of Chaillot,” Manteca High Drama students will take on this timely piece written during World War II.

According to Drama teacher Dawn Coyan, her students will discuss contemporary issues of those days in an entertaining yet thought-provoking manner during the two performances scheduled Thursday (Nov. 29) and Friday (Nov. 30).

“At first, it seems to be about one crazy old lady’s efforts to stop overbearing powers from turning Paris into an oil field once black gold has been discovered under the cobblestones of the City of Lights,” she said.

But what the play really deals with are people battling conformity and greed, while maintaining honor while looking to do the right thing.

The play is set in the Café de L’Alma in the Chaillot district of Paris and has two acts.

The MHS Drama Department is encouraging folks to enjoy an evening out while supporting these creative students.

Cost is $5. The curtain will rise on both nights at 7 o’clock.
