MODESTO - The Modesto Junior College Me-wuk Child Development Lab Preschools are accepting applications for children between the ages of 2 and 5 to attend preschool programs located on the West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Avenue in Modesto. Fall 2010 families will have the choice of enrolling children in either a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesday and Thursday preschool experience.
The programs run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and provide a special learning environment that offers a ratio of 1 adult per 3 children.
The Monday and Wednesday preschool is part of the Child Development 126 – Inclusion Special Needs Practicum course and children enrolling in this program must be at least two years of age by September. The Tuesday and Thursday preschool is part of the Child Development 128 course – Preschool Practicum and children enrolling must be at least three years old by December 2 of the year they begin the program. Dates for upcoming semesters are Fall 2010: September – December (12 weeks), Spring 2011: January – April (12 weeks), and Summer 2011: June – July (5 weeks).
A birth certificate will be required as proof of an enrolling child’s age. A lottery system will be utilized for placement of children in the preschool children. A current physician’s report and an up-to-date immunization record are also required for eligibility. The cost of the preschool is $200 per semester per child and need-based scholarships are available.
If their children are admitted, one parent from each family is required to enroll in, attend and successfully complete FAMILY LIFE 800 which is a ½ unit, 8-hour evening class on parenting. If not currently enrolled as an MJC student, parents must fill out an application for admission to the college prior to enrolling in this or any other MJC class. An MJC application may be made online at www.mjc.edu or at the Admissions Office on either campus. Regular MJC fees apply to this class.
