Three school board seats up for grabs in the November elections

There are three members of the seven-panel Manteca Unified School District Board of Trustees whose terms will expire in November.

Trustees Rex Holiday of district Area One, Michael Seelye of Area Three, and Wendy King of Area Five will complete their current terms by the end of the year leaving three vacant seats. None of the three has made any public announcements whether they will seek re-election. If they do, they will have the period between July 16 and Aug. 10 to file their candidate’s papers with the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters. The same filing dates will apply to those who want to go after those elected positions.

The four other members of the Board of Education who will continue serving until 2014 when their current term ends are board President Evelyn Moore who is representing Area Five, Don Scholl who is vice president of the board and represents Area Five, Manuel Medeiros who represents Area Two, and Nancy Teicheira who is the representative of Area Four.

Trustees Medeiros and Teicheira are the longest-running members of the school board, with Medeiros who is currently serving his fourth term having a slight advantage over Teicheira.

While the trustees are elected at large, they represent specific areas in the district whose jurisdiction covers Manteca, Lathrop, French Camp and Weston Ranch.
