ROUNDUP: Buffs bash 16 hits in blowout of Sierra

 Freshman Na’ima Calderon spearheaded Manteca’s 16-hit attack Tuesday against visiting Sierra, finishing 3 for 4 in the 11-0, six-inning victory.

She plated a run and drove in two others in the Valley Oak League tilt.

Ayva Wilkins, also a freshman, racked up three RBIs while going 2 for 4 with a double and a run.

Jocelyn Baptist (double, two runs), Isabel Tonna (double, two runs, RBI) and Cecelia Avalos (two runs, RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Tatum Kusy-Penirian added two RBIs.

Tonna also pitched three hitless innings, firing five strikeouts. Nayellys Torres struck out five in two innings while earning the win. Riley Ward faced five batters in her one-inning appearance. The trio combined for a two-hitter.

Manteca (6-2 VOL, 15-4 overall) caps regular-season play with three road games starting Thursday at Oakdale.

Lathrop 11, Johansen 1 (5)

In Modesto, the Spartans (8-4 Western Athletic Conference, 13-6 overall) erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to enforce the mercy rule.

Luz De Luna powered the attack, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Aubree Martinez went 2 for 3 with a walk and a run. Tianna Gonzalez chipped in two runs and two RBIs. Kendall Stewart also drove in a pair of runs.

Ariana Fuentes pitched four innings, giving up two hits while striking out 10. Macy De Costa allowed one hit and struck out one in an inning pitched.


Mariposa 19, Ripon Christian 5 (5)

Kate Van Groningen knocked in two runs with a double for the visiting Knights (4-7 Southern Athletic League, 4-13 overall).

Alanna Blanco (run, RBI) and Julia Van Groningen both went 2 for 3.

Mariposa (10-1, 12-9 took advantage of 10 errors.


Junior varsity

Lathrop 24, Johansen 10

Alina Ledezma led the barrage, going 2 for 2 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.

Juliana Marquez went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Zoe Mateo added three runs and an RBI in her two-hit effort.

Aaliyah Roberts plated three runs and knocked in another. Charlotte Serrano chimed in with a hit, four runs scored and an RBI.

Marquez pitched a complete game, firing four strikeouts and scattering just two hits.
