Going whole hog for SJ County Fair

Ripon High School incoming sophomore Alyssa Donich, 15, has scored some important points for pig showmanship in the Dave Luis Memorial swine arena this week at the San Joaquin County Fair.
The fair continues today through Sunday at the Stockton fairgrounds.
Having been in Ripon 4-H for five years, this is her first year to compete in the FFA judging, She has a history of always showing her pigs at the fair under the mentorship of the late Dave Luis. Donich earned second place overall in all of the FFA in showmanship on Wednesday.  Megan Harlan, also representing Ripon FFA, took first place. 
Megan will go on now to Master Showmanship competition on Friday with the livestock sale set for Saturday at the fairgrounds.
Alyssa’s mother Kari Lowder Donich and her father Damon Donich showed pigs in high school as well.
The Ripon High sophomore also won champion FFA with her cross breed and won third place overall in the judging. 
The fairgrounds are located at 1658 S. Airport Way in Stockton. General admission is $10 for ages 11 and older, $5 for children ages 5 through 10, and free for youngsters age 4 and under accompanied by paid-admission fairgoer. The fair is open daily through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Whiz Kids is a cover band out of Sacramento currently touring throughout the state and Reno, playing Top 40 radio rock, pop, R&B and country favorites that will perform tonight as well as the Eagles tribute band known as Fast Lane.
Special events throughout the week includes Kids’ Day (today, free admission all day for those age 12 and under); 40% Off Entry (Friday, adults are $6 and children 6-12 is $3 until 5 p.m.); Ag Fest & Agriculture Day (Saturday); and Hispanic day (Sunday).
